It all started when Elisabeth of Desamour Designs put out a call for guest bloggers and desingers for tutorials and patterns. I applied for a stitch tutorial and was quickly accepted.
What followed was quite a bit of research and experimentation to figure out a good stitch that not only looks good but also is versatile for all types of projects n yarn.
Thats when, I rediscovered the the Fantail Shell stitch and it was the perfect fit!
You can read all about the Fantail Shell Stitch with written instructions, photo tutorial and video tutorial here.

Using the Fantail shell stitch for a new design got me super excited and the Amber beany was conceptualized. The look and texture of this stitch totally determined the body of the beanie and lead to a gorgeous textured crown to top it off.
The Amber Beany
The Amber Beany is a bottom up hat worked in the round. It uses the beautiful Fantail shell stitch (FSS) for the body and post stitches for the brim and the textured top. Made in worsted weight yarn, this Beany works up in no time as the FSS gives it a gorgeous height and texture.
